Top 5 / North America

New Jersey is home to more than 30 wineries and vineyards. Many offer tours and tasting room hours, with seasonal events and festivals throughout the year. Check out these wineries on your next trip to the Garden State.

Beneduce Vineyards

Wines are divided into classic, premium and signature collections and are available to purchase online. The tasting room is open Wednesday–Sunday. Beneduce hosts “group therapy” on Saturday and Sunday year-round complete with live music, rotating food trucks and drink specials.

Peppadew Fresh Vineyards and Winery

Peppadew Fresh Vineyards and Winery in northern New Jersey is the closest New Jersey winery to the New York metropolitan area. Set on 15 acres, the winery opened to the public in 2012. New plantings include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Riesling vines.

Renault Winery

Master Vintner Louis Nicholas Renault founded Renault Winery, the state’s oldest, in 1864. With ties to France, Renault brought French Champagne grapes with him to New Jersey. The winery is the only winery in the United States able to say it produces true Champagne. To further entice visitors, a hotel, restaurant and golf course were built on site in 2001.

Sharrott Winery

This family-owned and -operated winery specializes in dry whites, dry reds and sweet varieties. Sharrott frequently hosts live music and other special events. Serious oenophiles, sign up for the Sharrott Wine Club to receive benefits including a 20 percent discount off purchases and shipments.

Unionville Vineyards

Located in central New Jersey, Unionville Vineyards is open daily 12–5 p.m., with a variety of tasting options in their tasting room. The winery produces European-style, food-friendly wines. Unionville offers many packages for weddings, corporate and other group events.

Honorable mention: Melovino Meadery, the first meadery in New Jersey.
