Even the most diehard lovers of New York City’s concrete jungle need a change of scenery every now and again. These destinations are all a stone’s throw away from the city and easily accessible.
This quaint little town along New York’s Hudson River is easily accessible by MetroNorth from Grand Central Station. Grab lunch on Main Street, check out the scenery from the village’s waterfront, or even go on a short hike at Little Stony Point Park to catch spectacular views of the river.
That’s right, just minutes away from the Big Apple are dozens of wineries in Long Island’s North Fork. You’ll need wheels to hit these up, so your best bet is to grab a couple of friends and design your own wine tour with a reputable tour or limo company. These usually last all day and include winery fees in the per-person cost, so you can taste to your heart’s content without worrying about a designated driver.
This Victorian castle nestled in the Catskill Mountains is the perfect escape from the hectic city. There’s a spa, private lake and boating, horseback riding, golf and more. Stay overnight or book a meal or spa treatment to enjoy full access to the grounds.
Philadelphia, Pa.
That’s right, at about two hours away by train, the City of Brotherly Love is day-trip distance from New York. Check out the Liberty Bell, eat a Philly cheesesteak and browse art (and climb the Rocky steps) at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
