The Galt House Hotel in Louisville, Ky., is one of the most historic hotels in the state, with the original hotel opening in 1835. Famous guests have included Charles Dickens and Abraham Lincoln and, during the Civil War, the Galt House was the site of strategy meetings between the Union’s Generals Grant and Sherman. Between its original creation and present day, the Galt House was destroyed twice before the building of the current hotel in the 1970s, which has since been remodeled.
