Victoria, British Columbia’s charming waterfront capital, is easily seen on foot with only a weekend’s worth of exploring.
To start, visit the outstanding organic bakery Agrius downtown, where you’ll fuel up on coffee and pastries for $10.
Next, explore part of the city on foot, whether you stroll the waterfront, stop in the elegant Empress Hotel and visit Chinatown, with its beguiling Fan Tan Alley, Gates of Harmonious Interest and numerous shops. Also worth a visit — and free — is Beacon Hill Park, with its beautifully kept gardens and Instagram-worthy views of the waterfront.
Head to Fisherman’s Wharf for lunch, where you’ll find a collection of colorful houseboats that include private homes as well as a few restaurants. Lunch here will probably be about $20.
If it’s raining, spend some time at the Royal BC Museum, where you can learn about British Columbia’s natural and human history. Entry is $13 and up, and you can easily tack on an IMAX movie, too. Or if the weather is cooperating, rent a kayak or stand-up paddleboard for around $40.
Several restaurants in downtown Victoria can fill you up for dinner with your remaining funds.
