Santa Fe is often thought of as one of the most artistic cities in America, but it also has quite the reputation as a foodie paradise. In fact, with 200 restaurants in a city with a population of 70,000, there are almost as many restaurants as there are homes. Here are a few you shouldn’t miss.
Authentic Italian food can be hard to find in the age of Olive Garden, but there’s one restaurant in Santa Fe that does it perfectly. Owner Lino Pertusini uses only fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced locally in a variety of traditional dishes. The restaurant is also famous for its extensive wine list.
The Shed is a Santa Fe institution having stood for 50 years. It’s most well known for its red chile enchiladas, but this family-owned restaurant serves up a variety of traditional Northern New Mexico dishes with Spanish and Mexican influences.
Arguably one of the most popular restaurants in Santa Fe, Fire and Hops is a locally owned joint that offers a farm-to-table menu full of fresh goods. You’ll find it packed all seven nights of the week, but every Saturday and Sunday they hold a farmer’s market lunch with a great sampling of food.
izanami has one of the largest selections of sake in Santa Fe with more than 40 varieties available on its omakase tasting menu. The farmhouse setting harkens back to the traditional Japanese dining experience of enjoying a meal with family and the grilled meats are cooked to perfection every time.
Northern New Mexico cuisine contains many spices inspired by Mexico, but also its own popular brand of barbecue. The Ranch House is famous for showcasing these smoked meat treats amid a cozy atmosphere. The focus is on healthy American fare, but you can also find a great burger here any day of the week.
