Yes, you can surf in Washington State. Cold water, sure, but don your wetsuit and get ready. Consistent waves range from manageable to enormous, drawing surfers with varying levels of experience. And you may just find yourself surfing next to an otter, porpoise or whale.
Among the best places to try your hand at surfing in Washington are:
Popular due to its low-key nature and relatively easy proximity to Seattle and Tacoma, Westport’s waves are some of the best in the state. Fuel up on craft beer and locally caught fish after a day in the water.
Slightly more remote, La Push offers consistent waves, few if any other surfers and views of towering cliffs.
The Long Beach Peninsula, with its quirky beach towns, great clamming beaches and other recreation, lets you drive right up to the water to unload your boards.
Cape Disappointment, near Oregon, also offers epic cliff views and has a small cove with consistent waves safe from the dangers of the open ocean.
Seaside offers a charming, small town atmosphere with plenty of attractive lodging options, all within easy reach of the swells and the beach.
