Tips / Safety

Security is a serious concern for travelers, especially when it comes to keeping digital information private. Thankfully, there are tons of apps to help keep your smartphone and laptop protected from hackers.

TunnelBear

TunnelBear is a VPN (virtual private network) that “tunnels” your location to a different country, making it difficult for hackers to nail you down. It’s perfect for travelers who connect to a lot of random WiFi spots while on the road and can keep your internet connection secure. Also? It’s free to try.

Lookout

Lookout is strictly for iPhone users at this point, but is a must for frequent travelers. It monitors your apps for suspicious activity, has a built-in backup service and even comes with identity theft protection if you’re willing to shell out $10 a month.

Norton Mobile Security

Android users will find the best security available with Norton. Anti-theft functionality, backup features, call blocking and malware protection are all standard features. An extra $30 a year will also get you a compatible VPN app to block your location from hackers. Check out the whole suite.

EmergenSee

Sometimes it’s more important to worry about personal safety than someone hacking your phone, which is why EmergenSee is a must-have for travelers. It’s the only live video personality safety app currently available. With it you can press a button and automatically turn on live video that’ll alert your family and friends to your location by GPS and audio in an emergency.

What to Expect at This Year’s Catskill Cuisine Fest

The second annual Catskill Cuisine festival is set to kick off soon, May 10–12. After the inaugural event’s success, this year’s festival is bigger than ever, with the one-day main event once again held at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts (historic site of the 1969 Woodstock Festival). Events, including a charity golf tournament and Mother’s Day brunch, will also occur throughout the weekend.

The Argosaronic Islands Are Calling

The Saronic or Argo Saronic Islands of Greece call travelers to explore its seven small islands and islets brimming with history, natural sites and more. With most easily accessible by boat, the islands’ proximity to ports of Athens make the Saronic Islands an ideal destination for those preferring shorter boat rides. In fact, trips from Athens ports to the islands take only between 10 minutes and two hours, depending on the island you choose, making them perfect for day or weekend trips.
