Last November’s Cavalcade of Lights gave Rockefeller Center a run for its money. The event is an annual tradition for Toronto, which began with a holiday choir sing-a-long and the lighting of their Christmas Tree, sponsored by Hudson’s Bay and powered by Toronto hydro.
A special holiday concert followed the lighting, led by Cris Derksen, musical director of the Cavalcade Orchestra. The Juno nominee conducted a team that featured guests Don Amero, Dan Talevski and Kiran Ahluwalia, herself a two-time Juno recipient. The Red Pepper Spectacle Arts ended the concert with a procession, showcasing aboriginal culture through music, costumes, puppets and street performers.
After the annual fireworks display, attendees were greeted with a special concert by Whitehorse, the Juno award-winning husband-and-wife duo of Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland, known for combining live instrumentation with electronic gadgets.
The performance was followed by a skating party featuring DJ General Electric. Skating at Nathan Phillips Square will continue all winter, with skate rentals available on-site.
