Tips / Safety

Despite what the news channels tell you, it’s not necessarily dangerous to travel to Afghanistan. Sure, you need to be cautious about where you visit, but tons of people are still visiting the country every day.

Check Warnings and Alerts

The U.S. government regularly updates travelers about safe places to travel, as do other countries. Check online for areas where violence isn’t occurring and avoid the places involved in war.

Keep Your Wits About You

If something feels wrong, trust your instincts. Don’t head to off-the-beaten-path places with someone you don’t know. In fact, you should probably stick to tourist-heavy areas at this time.

Respect the Culture

This goes without saying, but you should always adapt to the local culture as much as possible no matter where you travel. Dress conservatively and don’t engage in PDA. No traveler should try to draw attention to themselves.

Contact the Embassy

It’s important to know where the nearest U.S. Embassy is during your travels in case of an emergency. They can also give you great tips about where it’s safe to travel at this time, so put them on speed dial.
