Could Milan’s Backdoor 43 be the world’s smallest bar? They’re certainly hopeful as the owners applied for a Guinness World Record to that effect. The bar is a single room the size of a walk-in closet with only four stools and a small bar area. Shelves are stocked with vials, bottles and various vintage knickknacks. Cocktails are poured to suit visitors’ tastes.
Backdoor 43 sits on Ripa di Porta Ticinese in Milan, and it’s just four square meters in size. The diminutive establishment feels like your own private club. The bartender wears a Guy Fawkes mask, adding to the mystery.
Cocktails and music are amended to suit customers’ preferences. Just ask for your favorite spirit or flavor profile and the bartender will make you something unique.
The owners are Angiolillo and Marco Russo, who also own the next-door bar, Mag Bar. They originally wanted to serve to-go cocktails, the focus of Mag Bar, but they decided to allow people to come in and sit. Hopeful visitors can make a reservation, which usually fill up about two weeks in advance.
