Under $100 / North America

Hoboken, N. J., a prospering city, is located directly across the river from lower Manhattan. Here you’ll find those who want to be close to all of the action in NYC but do not want to live in a shoe box for an exuberant amount of money. While the city is a short distance away, there are plenty of fun things to do in Hoboken that may save you a few extra bucks.

Stop by Choc o Pain, a delicious breakfast spot. Order a buttery ham and cheese or chocolate croissant for less than $5. Bring your laptops and do some early morning work while you snack on a yogurt parfait, house-made granola or quiche for less than $10.

History buff or not, you have plenty of historical sites to see. The Hoboken Historical Museum has plenty of stories and exhibits for only $4. From Frank Sinatra to an Ellis Island experience or one year after Hurricane Sandy, pick up a map and creative a self-guided walking tour.

No trip to Hoboken is complete without a visit to Carlo’s Bakery. If you have ever watched Cake Boss on TLC you don’t want to miss out on the fun. Pick up something sweet, from cannoli, cupcakes, cookies and cakes.. Prices range from $6 for two cupcakes to $59 for an assortment of gourmet cupcakes, lobster tails and cannoli.
