Merida is full of colonial hotels and guesthouses, but Villa Merida is truly spectacular.
Located a short walk from the historic center of town, Villa Merida is housed in a colonial mansion. It had been left in decay by owners who fell on hard times, but it was then rescued and restored by the current proprietor.
The eight-room property has been lovingly restored to its former glory, with four-poster beds, lofty ceilings and an impressive pool. Keep the air-con cranked high for the hot Merida weather, or take a dip and soak up the rays for a relaxed day by the pool.
It’s an Airbnb property, and the property manager is incredibly helpful and attentive. Any slight issue you might have with your room is quickly taken care of, and the entire property is spotlessly clean.
There is a professional kitchen behind the pool that guests are free to use as long as they leave it clean, and the same goes for the washing machine and dryer. It feels like a luxury hotel, but with all of the amenities of your own home.
I would highly recommend a stay at Villa Merida for anyone who wants to feel like they are staying in a colonial-era hacienda. It’s a luxurious place, and it makes for a relatively inexpensive treat for those on longer trips.
