Visiting the Chocolate Museum of Brussels

Stroll the streets of Brussels and you’ll come across more chocolate shops than you can count. If you want to learn about the history of chocolate in the country, though, there’s only one place to go: Choco-Story Brussels, the carefully curated chocolate museum created by the same family behind chocolate museums in other related destinations around the world, such as Paris and Mexico.

Welcoming thousands of visitors each year, the museum, opened in 2014, houses exhibition rooms on the history and creation process of chocolate, and even spaces where you can watch chocolate-making demonstrations.

Entering the museum, which honestly looks like just about any other striking medieval building in the city (this particular one was built in 1697), you can find several exhibits right on the ground floor — including the resident master chocolatier’s workshop. The more floors you climb, the more artifacts you’ll find dealing with the creation of chocolate over the ages. The family put together an impressive array of artifacts from their travels and years in the industry, so you’ll see a little bit of everything.

Don’t miss the workshop, though, where you can get your hands dirty and start making your own delicious treats.

Choco-Story Brussels is open every day of the week, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., and is conveniently located just off Brussel’s Grand Place, making it an easy visit while you’re seeing other attractions in the city. Plus, the museum takes less than an hour to see, so it can easily squeeze into your schedule.

Admission is €6 for a self-guided tour, but guided tours and even city chocolate tours can be arranged for an additional fee.
