Visiting Farms in Chimacum, Wash.

The rural community of Chimacum, on the western side of Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, is becoming known for its small farms, many of which welcome visitors to shop at their farm stands or attend events on site.

Among the best to visit is Red Dog Farm, which has a large farm stand in view of its fields of crops. Here, you can buy from a large selection of produce in an on-your-honor system. Similarly, the small farm of SpringRain allows patrons to simply walk in to the stand, choose and weigh vegetables and leave cash or check in a lock box.

At Finnriver Farm and Cidery, visitors can taste through the farm’s excellent ciders, which have become known around the region. You can also take a self-guided tour of the farm, which has small signs leading visitors around and discussing issues of sustainability and environmental responsibility. There is a small farm stand next to the cidery that sells produce, eggs and cheese.

For a more complete shopping experience, the Chimacum Corner Farmstand is a small grocery featuring many local products, including fresh baked goods and sandwiches, an excellent stop if you’re going to have a picnic.
