Remember when 3D printing was just a prototype in the industrial industry? Well, now meet Wazer, which is in the same boat.
Wazer is the world’s first desktop waterjet cutter. These tools are capable of slicing into metal or other materials using a jet of water at a high velocity and pressure, or a mixture of water and an abrasive substance. Waterjet cutters have been out of reach for individuals and small businesses because of the high cost and massive size of the machines. Wazer is capable of cutting through sheets of any material like metal, stone, ceramic, composites, wood, plastic, rubber and foam.
The company formed around a senior design project at Penn Engineering and has taken off. The response has been incredible and after a few years of development, the first desktop waterjet has been created. The new tool can fit in every workshop as it is compact and contained, making it clean, safe and quiet to operate. The digital control achieves detail and accuracy impossible to accomplish by hand.
Create professional-grade, quality objects like a custom knife, penny necklace, a baker’s rack, belt drive bicycle and more. The technology has significant advantages over conventional cutting methods — it cuts any material, achieves intricate detail, requires no ventilation, results in a smooth finish and has no heat-induced material warping.
Wazer comes as a desktop unit with a separate pump box to be placed anywhere in the vicinity. There are also removable legs to convert Wazer into a stand-up unit. A traditional waterjet costs upward of $100,000 but Wazer is only charging $5,999 to bring the technology everywhere.
