As the weather starts to get warmer and the days start to get longer, it’s time to head outside and enjoy every aspect of springtime, including a bevvy of national and international festivals. If you’re considering a bit of spring travel, here are some of this year’s best celebrations.

New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival

Most Americans are aware of this annual celebration of music, but this year is the city’s 300th birthday, making it the perfect excuse to finally attend. April 27–May 6, catch some of the world’s best performers in all types of music, including Patti LaBelle, Jimmy Buffett, Sting, Lionel Richie and Beck.

Hot Docs International Documentary Film Festival, Canada

Also in late April and early May, Toronto hosts North America’s biggest documentary film festival. The festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary this spring and will air more than 200 entry films to upwards of 215,000 attendees.

International Kite Festival, France

Europe takes kite- lying to new (and competitive) heights with its annual kite festival. Competitions include kite battles, décor contests and a night flight during this mid-April festival on France’s northern coast.

Sydney Biennale, Australia

Through June 11, Sydney celebrates its 45th annual contemporary arts show and its 21st edition. With a theme of “Superposition: Equilibrium and Engagement,” works of art will convey how opposing views are able to coexist in the world.
