Destinations / North America

Corning, New York, is located near the state’s Finger Lakes region. Affectionately known as the Crystal City, Corning is home to the popular Corning Museum of Glass. See the city on less than $100 a day.

Start your day with breakfast at Poppleton Bakery and Café. The restaurant offers sweet and savory breakfast baked goods and meals made from scratch. Choose from breakfast sandwiches or sweet or savory crepes for a hearty start to your day. Sandwiches start around $3 and crepes around $4.25. Go for a stroll through Spencer Crest Nature Center. Part of Corning Community College, the nature center boasts seven miles of trails, ponds, a stream and a museum.

A visit to the Corning Museum of Glass is a must. The museum is dedicated to the art, history and science of glass and features more than 50,000 glass objects in its collection. Open daily, hours vary by season. Adult general admission costs $20.

Grab lunch and some brews at Market Street Brewing Co. and Restaurant. The brewery and restaurant serves house-made brews alongside classic pub grub. Sandwiches start at $9.99. Spend some time (and money) shopping at Corning’s Gaffer District. Named after glassblowers (known as gaffers), the shopping area features numerous shops and cafés selling everything from specialty foods to — you guessed it — glass products.

Dine on a globally inspired menu at The Cellar. Menus change seasonally to reflect the freshest, local ingredients. Entrées range about $16–49. More than 40 wines are available by the glass, starting at $7.
