Avoid unnecessarily overpacking luggage by leaving the things you don’t need at home. Ten of them are listed below.

  • Extra Toiletries: Toiletries take up a lot of space and are heavy when combined. Bring only the items you know you can’t get abroad. If you can get them at your final destination, leave them at home.

  • Bath Towels: Hotels should provide you with towels to dry off when you take a bath or shower. Bath towels are bulky and unnecessary.

  • Heavy Camera: Most phones nowadays have excellent camera quality, so a phone camera should do the trick. The lens is usually heavy, and they need special attention and storage so they don’t break.

  • Expensive Clothes and Jewelry: Losing meaningful or valuable items can take a toll on anyone. To avoid stress, leave them at home as a way to protect from possible theft or misplacement.

  • Extra Gadgets: Leave laptops, cameras and other devices at home that will make your luggage heavier.

  • Books: E-books are a better option and can be synced across your devices.

  • Extra Shoes: You’ll probably need only one to two pairs of shoes while traveling. It keeps your luggage light. A suggestion is to get black shoes as they work well with any color.

  • Jacket: Unless you are traveling to a colder climate, you don’t need a coat. If you are, you only need to bring one. Wear it while leaving the country to save space in your luggage.

  • Guidebooks: You can find handbooks for free or cheaply, wherever your destination may be.

  • Hairdryer and Flat Iron: These are also items you can get for a low price while traveling, or that will be available in the hotel.

Another consideration is, if you think twice about an item, it is probably an inkling you should leave it home.
