Under $100: Arvada, Colo.

The Denver suburb of Arvada has plenty to offer in its own right, from walking and biking trails to microbreweries and easy access to the Rocky Mountains.

Start your day in Olde Town, a strip of restaurants and shops. School House Kitchen and Libations should be your stop for breakfast, where you’ll dine in a charming 1882 schoolhouse with a thematically appropriate menu. Budget $25.

Spend some time walking the town, enjoying the shops and small businesses. Consider visiting the Colorado Railroad Museum, with its fascinating collection of vintage trains, a miniature railroadand exhibits. Tickets are $5.

Spend the afternoon exploring El Dorado Canyon, with its array of trails. Keep an eye out for rock climbers scaling the precipitous cliffs that make up the canyon walls. It’s also a great place to picnic beside the stream, if you haven’t already eaten lunch or want to pack a snack. Trails range from easy to moderate, so there’s something for everyone. Entry is $8.
