Start your journey with breakfast and head over to one of the Mary Lee’s Donuts locations around the city. Their donuts, cheese kolaches and cinnamon buns all run for under a dollar a piece.

Then, visit the Baton Rouge Gallery for Contemporary Art in the beautiful City-Brooks Community Park, and check out a surrealist art exhibition.

In the past decade, food trucks have quickly become an essential part of the Baton Rouge cuisine. Visitors should check out the boudin balls and pulled pork sandwich at the Three Bones Catering truck, parked downtown. A Cajun lunch goes for less than $10 here.

Next, visit the Buddy Stewart Memorial Rhythm Museum & Rock Shop in Mid City to learn about the historic vinyl shop and Louisiana band scene. It is free admission, and you might even catch some live music if you’re lucky.

For dinner, the Pelican House is the perfect stop. For less than $10, travelers can experience authentic Cajun food like fried gator or fried green tomatoes and crawfish remoulade. Then, stay for a tasty $9 mint julep.

Finally, relive your college memories by visiting Louisiana State University’s Varsity Theater for live music and drinks. Tickets to each homegrown country or blues performance cost less than $20.
