Under $100 / North America

While New Yorkers may disagree, Boston is a pretty cool town. With its rich heritage, clean streets, professional sports dominance and devotion to drinking, Beantown is a neat place to visit or even live.

Start your day off at Row 34 in Fort Point for brunch. After offering a casual counter-service Sunday brunch for most of last year, Row 34 transitioned to a full-service brunch. The menu leans more on the lunch side, but the restaurant does offer lemon and ricotta pancakes with maple syrup, $13, or sausage, egg and cheese on an everything pretzel roll for $14. If you’re in the mood for seafood-focused dishes, Row 34 is the place to be. Order the smoked bluefish pate on a nori bagel with togarshi cream cheese for $14 or the crispy fish sandwich with chips and slaw for $17. Brunch is served on Sundays 10:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

After brunch, head to Charles River Canoe and Kayak and paddle in the heart of Boston and Cambridge from the Kendall Square location. Treat yourself to a beautiful skyline view of Boston as well as other nearby landmarks like M.I.T, Zakim Bridge, Boston University and the Museum of Science. The nine-mile stretch of river has no current, allowing for an easy trip. For a single kayak, it’s $15 per hour, but for just $5 more you can rent a double. If you wish to try stand-up paddleboarding, it’s $18 per hour, while a standard double canoe is $20 per hour.

Once you’ve worked up a sweat cool down in the Seaport District at Harpoon Brewery. Sample suds on a $5, hour-long tour that concludes with a tasting and admission to the beer hall where you can purchase pints, pretzels and growlers to go.

Spend the afternoon relaxing on the Common. Established in 1634, the Common is America’s oldest park. In the summer, have a catch, an afternoon picnic or people watch. In the winter, ice skate on the frog pond and warm up with hot chocolate.

Cap off the night at the Top of the Hub. Experience 360-degree views of the city from Boston’s highest restaurant and bar. Go before 8 p.m. to avoid the drink minimum and grab a bite to eat. Nosh on appetizers like New England clam chowder, a Boston staple, for $11 or the jumbo lump crab gnocchi for $16 while sipping on the banana foster martini for $15.
