Trends / Unique Itineraries & Tours

Every March, Austin hosts South by Southwest. The popular music and film festival was first held in 1987 and continues to grow in size and popularity year after year. But March isn’t the only time of year to catch incredible live performances in Austin. The city is home to dozens and dozens of live music venues featuring popular and up-and-coming acts. But you don’t need to go to a concert space to check out a great band. Musicians play everywhere from grocery stores to taco stands.

As far as traditional spaces go, Austin has many. Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater accommodates 2,700-plus in the three-level seating configuration. The Mohawk is a multilevel venue, with a roof deck and indoor/outdoor seating. The venue features local and touring acts. Go to the Scoot Inn or The Little Longhorn Saloon for traditional Texas honky-tonk performances. Stubb’s BBQ is famous for their Sunday Gospel Brunch, pairing BBQ favorites with soulful gospel tunes.

If you’re interested in a more unusual locale, check out the schedules at Central Market and Whole Foods. The grocery stores feature live music often. For music lovers who also happen to love Mexican food, stop by Güero’s Taco Bar for live performances while noshing on tasty tacos.

Though South by Southwest is Austin’s most popular festival, the city hosts others including Urban Music Festival and Fun Fun Fun Fest.

No matter your music preference, Austin has something for every live music lover.
