Food & Drink

As of last year, Argentina is the first Hispanic Latin American country recognized by the Michelin Guide. More than 70 restaurants are now featured in the Guide, with several 1- and 2-star establishments highlighted throughout Buenos Aires and Mendoza.

However, true foodie travelers know Argentina’s culinary scene offers lots to love, Michelin star or not. What are the can’t-miss foods to eat in Argentina? Recommended options include:

Grilled Asado

Argentine barbecue, grilled asado is a part of the country’s culture — andbest enjoyed with a glass of Malbec.

Vitel Tone

A holiday offering served as a chilled appetizer, this dish includes thinly sliced beef, a soft tuna sauce, mayonnaise, capers and hardboiled eggs.

Stuffed Matambre

Matambre is a flank steak, and, in this recipe, it is stuffed with veggies, hardboiled eggs, ham, olives, and seasonings and spices. The steak is grilled or baked until done.

Russian Salad

Another holiday favorite in Argentina, the Russian salad is a potato salad. Potatoes are combined with diced carrots and peas in a mayonnaise-based sauce.

Sweet Bread

This European-derived sweet bread is filled with dried fruit, raisins, nuts, vanilla and cognac, before being covered in icing sugar.

As travelers look for ways to slow down, be present and be a little more mindful during their trips, some hotels and resorts tout a new accommodation concept: the deconstructed hotel. Just like a deconstructed dish separates all of the dish’s individual ingredients so one can experience each separately but still enjoy the overall effect of the whole, a deconstructed hotel breaks down a property into its separate components, requiring a traveler to move between each in a more mindful, present manner.
