One in four American adults (61 million Americans) live with a disability. Mobility disability is the most common, and accessibleGO is here to help. The leading accessible travel website for people with disabilities, accessibleGO allows travelers to book hotels, flights, cars and cruises with the assurance all of their needs will be met. accessibleGO also offers a platform allowing guests to access information, share experiences and inspire others to travel the world.

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, the accessibleGo team put together a list of six destinations both romantic and accessible for travel.

South Beach, Miami

South Beach contains several barrier-free paths where guests can reach the beach with ease. To get to the water, you’ll have to use a beach wheelchair, which you can borrow at no cost from Beach Patrol. The outdoor Lincoln Road Malloffers wheelchair-accessible sidewalks and shops. While exploring the shops and galleries, don’t forget to stop for a bite to eat. At night, wander around the bright neon signs and spend the night out at one of the luxury hotels. Head to Mandarin Oriental which features a specially priced Social Hour with crafted cocktails and small plates.

Savannah, Georgia

While exploring Savannah, stop by Garden of Fragrance, an area with aromatic and textured plants specifically designed for those with visual disabilities. Next, head to River Street for the best bars, restaurants and shops. Although the cobblestone streets can be hard to maneuver, avoid some of the bumps by taking the elevator located next to Hyatt Regency Savannah.

New Orleans, Louisiana

Sometimes the French Quarter can be a bit difficult to navigate for those with mobility devices, but many bars and restaurants are wheelchair accessible. Head to the wheelchair-accessible Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden for 11 acres of gardens, two lagoons and more than 90 sculptures. Then, check out the New Orleans Museum of Art.

New York City

The observation deck of the Empire State Building is one of the most romantic outings in New York City, in which countless marriage proposals have happened. You can ride to the 86th floor where the observation area includes binoculars at wheelchair height. Other romantic activities include exploring Central Park, catching a Broadway show or taking in stunning views of the city with a cocktail at one of the many rooftop bars.

San Antonio

Located 20 feet below street level is River Walk, which can be accessed by stairs, elevators and ramps. Wander through the lush pathways, stop in the shops, bars and hotels, and enjoy a delicious meal at one of the many restaurants. Take the experience to the water and hop on the accessible boat for a ride along the river while hearing the history of the 80-year-old attraction.

Yesterday, TSA began enforcing new identification guidelines, a change that’s been a long-time coming. Now, travelers must show a REAL ID-compliant, state-issued ID in order to fly on domestic flights, in lieu of a non-compliant driver’s license (some other forms of identification, such as passports, will still be acceptable).
