Greenleaf & Blueberry’s tagline states they offer handmade materials for the traveling artist. While that’s reason enough to visit their site and online shop, you’ll find any artist or aspiring artist will find something worth purchasing.
The business formed from founder and formally trained artist Jess’s love of travel and watercolors paired with mountain climber and paint maker Matt’s wide array of skills useful to the business. They now produce a collection of single pigment, handmade paints using the purest of natural ingredients — gum arabic (aka tree sap) in its raw form, local honey and natural preservatives. The paints are then wrapped and labeled using entirely recycled materials. Their paintbrushes are carved by hand with intricate and beautiful designs. The paints range in price from $7–46, depending upon the pigment you choose. Pigment options offered include Magnetite, derived from the mineral by the same name and actually magnetic; Vivianite, originating from a rare, Australian ochre; and Eggshell White, made from real organic eggshells from free-range chickens. The brushes are around $130 each.
They also allow for special custom orders if you have something particular in mind. Some of the special custom orders in the past included an adorable miniature watercolor travel set featuring 28 different colors set in an Altoid tin; a cotton canvas accordion-style coin purse made from recycled and vintage materials; and a three-color watercolor kit set in a vintage compact.
Greenleaf & Blueberry is based out of Washington and fulfills orders worldwide.
