The theme of a wedding will have a huge influence over the event, and choosing one is a difficult decision. Here’s how to get it right.
While many people prefer to play it safe and go with a traditional white wedding, an increasing proportion of couples look to add an extra something to the occasion by choosing a theme. That may be something specific to their relationship, such as the place where they met or an activity that they both enjoy, or may be informed by other factors, such as the location of the ceremony.
Some wedding planners offer consultation services designed to draw out potential themes, and there are online quizzes which promise to do the same job. Other people look to sites like Pinterest to search for inspiration, but can soon become paralyzed by indecision in the face of an avalanche of information.
The best piece of advice is to leave Pinterest alone and concentrate on analyzing your existing personal tastes. Inspiration from other people is great, but no one wants to end up with a copycat wedding that they end up regretting in 20 years. To get a sense of what suits you best, look at the items you choose to decorate your home with, or better still, your clothes. Is there a tendency toward sharp, contemporary design? Or do you prefer floral patterns?
Your wedding should be an expression of your personal style, but don’t let things get out of hand. If anything, tend toward more traditional wedding features to avoid regret at a later date. Remember that any theme should fit with your choice of venue, so be sure not to try and shoehorn a theme into somewhere it doesn’t fit. Try to make the whole wedding a holistic experience for you and your guests, and leave them impressed by your good taste!
