Macau’s city center can be an overwhelming mix of traffic and crowds, along with unfamiliar sights, sounds and languages. One way to take in all this fascinating Chinese territory has to offer is to take on a themed walking route, put together by the Macao Government Tourism Office.
The tours cover topics like Chinese and Portuguese cultural and historical crossroads, arts and culture, the marriage of east and west and more. Others concentrate on one specific area, like the historical heart of Macau, or Taipa and Coloane villages. The government tourism office’s website has a full list, along with PDF leaflets and apps for iPhone and Android, so you can pick the best version for your use.
Private companies also offer guided tours as well, if walking on your own isn’t your thing. There’s a Macau Open Top Bus Tour that operates for free on a hop-on, hop-off basis, visiting major sites and attractions. There’s also a pedicab option for those wanting a unique way to see the city.
