Tips / Travel

While most people feel flying with a baby is a terrifying prospect, others have just as much trouble flying with an elderly parent. If your mom or dad isn’t exactly the most mobile or healthy person, making a long trip with them can be daunting. Here are some tips to help simplify matters.

Call Ahead

If your parent needs helping getting on the plane, whether they require a wheelchair, special accommodation or are just a really slow walker, call ahead to have a plan in place. This way whatever special needs they have can be met ahead of time and won’t hold up the boarding process.

Pack Medicine

If your parent is getting up there in years, it’s likely they’re taking some sort of medication. Always double-check to make sure it’s packed, otherwise you can be in for a horrible surprise on the plane.

Bring a Blanket

Old bones are more susceptible to the cold than younger ones, so be sure to pack an extra blanket to help keep your mom or dad warm. An extra pillow probably wouldn’t hurt, either.

Notify Staff

If your parent has any health issues that could arise on the flight, it’s important the crew know about them. That way they can react efficiently and avoid panic. Actually, if your parent is that sick it’s probably best they don’t fly at all.

Massive Resort Planned for Florida’s Forgotten Coast

Known as Florida’s Forgotten Coast, this stretch of the Florida Panhandle is often overlooked for more well-known destinations in the state, such as Panama City Beach, Miami and Tampa.
