Under $100: Prince Rupert, BC
By Megan Hill
A popular stop on cruises to Alaska, the small town of Prince Rupert is easy to explore on foot for a day.
Start with breakfast and coffee at Cowpuccino’s Coffee, the town’s living room. Breakfast options include wonderful bowls of granola and fruit, plus excellent coffee, and will set you back about $15 depending on what you order.
Spend some time exploring the waterfront area and small downtown shopping district. You can visit the sunken garden and browse for souvenirs to take back home. After exploring the area on foot, stop for lunch at Fukasaku, a sushi restaurant dedicated to serving local and sustainably-caught seafood. The views of the waterfront are outstanding, and there are plenty of options for various palates. It’s a bit of a splurge but worth it, setting you back about $40.
Worth visiting next is the Museum of Northern British Columbia with exhibits about the natural and cultural heritage of the area. Admission is $6.
A must-stop is Wheelhouse Brewing, in downtown, which makes outstanding beer. Pints are $7. You’ve got around $32 to spend for dinner, so head to waterfront restaurant Breakers Pub where the fish and chips is highly recommended.
