Through Sept. 25, a variety of design events will take place in the British capital as part of the 2016 London Design Festival.
Since 2003, the annual event has served as a showcase for top design talent and promoted London’s role as a world design hub through a wide variety of exhibitions and installations. For those with a professional interest, as well as more casual observers, the 2016 edition is set to be fascinating.
Among the 400 events and installations is “The Smile,” a timber tunnel that touches the floor in the middle but rises at both ends. Visitors will be able to step inside and look out of the open ends, appreciating the patterns made by a number of perforations in the sides.
If you are following the current trend for all things Scandinavian, you should head to the 100% Norway exhibition at the Old Truman Brewery. Pieces will include ceramics, furniture and homewares.
Another interesting show explores the link between dyslexia and creativity, breaking down perceptions the condition is a disability. The Dyslexic Design show at designjunction in King’s Cross will show the work of 10 dyslexic designers working in fashion, illustration and homeware.
If you are looking for inspiration for your own work or hunting for some unique design pieces to purchase, the London Design Festival has it all. Venues are spread out across the city, but you can see the full 2016 program online.
