Home security systems are getting increasingly affordable, allowing travelers to keep an eye on their things while abroad. No longer an amalgamation of gadgets from different brands, these all-in-one solutions cover the basics of smart monitoring while remaining easy to operate.
One of the user-friendliest of the devices available is Sentri, a crowd-funded console from Kickstarter that connects various sensors to a touchscreen hub through WiFi. The accompanying app allows people to use third-party sensors as well, making Sentri a great option for those who’ve already purchased a Nest of Philips Hue.
The system is centered on an Apple-esque touchscreen, which can display a information like weather and air quality. Smart home devices are also controlled through the hub, which can record HD video of a burglar before sounding an alarm. There’s even an accelerometer for detecting intruders tampering with the device.
All photos and videos are backed up to a cloud that requires a subscription fee of $100 for the full year, allowing users to access them through an app.
