The great outdoors provides us with solace, peace, stunning scenery … and possible mosquito bites. Critters can be one of the few downsides to spending time in Mother Nature, and historically we combated these pests with creams, ointments and even candles that attempt to ward off mosquitoes and prevent irritating and itchy bite sites. Luckily, Thermacell has a product that doesn’t require smelly creams or lighting matches.

Thermacell’s portable mosquito repelling device sets up a protection zone of 15 feet by 15 feet, or 225 square feet, without the buzzing noise of some antiquated bug zappers. One EPA-approved butane cartridge works to emit an odor-free area around your campsite or fishing boat that repels mosquitoes and other annoying bugs.

The key ingredient is allethrin, a synthetic version of a similar repellent emitted naturally from chrysanthemums. Once the repellent mat is placed inside the top of the metal grill, the butane cartridge works to heat up the grill and saturate the mat, creating a heat-powered repellent released into the air.

The MR150 repeller comes with one original repeller within the device, and three replacement repeller mats.

Available in a few different colors (like black, grey, olive or camouflage), the repeller can be purchased on Thermacell’s website for $24.99 or on Amazon.com for varying prices.
