Tips / Travel

What plays the largest role in your travel or moving decisions? Costs, convenience, history, food? According to a survey by InterNations of more than 14,000 travelers from more than 191 countries, weather is among the most important factors in traveling and moving to new destinations.

For those seeking the sun, these are a few of the top destinations.

Malta

Ninety-two percent of Malta expats consider the weather a major selling point in this sunny Mediterranean archipelago. With mild winters and warm to hot summers, Malta offers the best climate in the world, according to International Living.

Costa Rica

Sunny weather and happiness go hand in hand in Costa Rica. Nine out of 10 expats report climate as a benefit to traveling or moving to Costa Rica, and 92 percent report being happy in the destination. The Central America country boasts a tropical climate year-round, with warm, mild temperatures.

Cyprus

The climate in Cyprus is considered a benefit by 86 percent of expats. One person surveyed said, “The sky is always blue and nothing is ever urgent.” In addition to its warm, subtropical climate, the Mediterranean island country also has one of the shortest full-time workweeks in the world.

Spain

No list of sunny escapes is complete without Spain. While the country has three different climate zones, its Mediterranean region offers warm to hot summers with plenty of sun — ideal for those looking to visit or move to the coastal cities of Palma, Sitges, Málaga or Valencia.

Arizona

Cities in Arizona, such as Yuma, have an average 299 days of sun per year. With that sun comes a lot of heat, with the average summer high around 107 degrees. The humidity in Arizona is low, making it a perfect destination for outdoor, year-round activities.
