Trends / Health & Wellness

It’s no secret one of the longstanding travel trends involves escaping the stresses and pressures of daily life and completely unplugging, both literally and metaphorically. An increasing number of specialized companies offer retreats and getaways with the sole purpose of relaxation and serenity. MycoMeditations is one such service that employs a range of techniques (particularly medicinal herbs) to help participants decompress.

Touting itself as a “psilocybin journey,” MycoMeditations offers an open style of participation in which attendees can take part as much or as little as they want while on site. The retreat takes place in a secure area of Jamaica where guests can enjoy homemade daily breakfasts and dinners, massages, guided hikes, various presentations and group discussions, as well as individual discussions upon request. The educational sessions teach participants about the benefits of psilocybin, a gentle psychedelic mushroom, and how it can be used for medicinal purposes to quell anxiety, depression and other psychological ailments. Participants are free to try the plant as a form of therapy in a safe, responsible and legal environment.

Group rates in basic housing for seven nights start at $1,795 and the price includes airport transfer from Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport, as well as meals and the aforementioned sessions and services. Individuals and couples may also book private rooms at an increased price, and camping ($1,325 per night) and comfort housing (with air conditioning, WiFi and a private pool) are also available options.
