Exchange Vows Under the Sea in Bora Bora

Wedding

Bora Bora already makes for a memorable and unabashedly romantic wedding destination. The French Polynesian island is renowned for its gloriously clear turquoise waters, white sand beaches and the picturesque Mount Otemanu right at the center of it all. It’s a paradise that feels far away from it all — but what if you want to go even further to exchange your vows?

You can, thanks to Bora Bora Underwater Wedding by Topdive. You read that right: You can actually get hitched underwater and live out those girlhood fantasies inspired by The Little Mermaid. A double outrigger canoe takes you to a secluded lagoon, where wedding staff helps you into special white dive suits and helmets (which don’t just give you the right wedding look — they also let you hear everything!). You’re then ready to head to Te Ana Ipo, the underwater chapel. A Polynesian priest in traditional garb (well, except for the dive helmet) helps you exchange vows beneath 13 feet of crystal-clear ocean water, sealing the deal with rings made from mother-of-pearl. And don’t worry — it’s all caught on video.

These underwater nuptials are definitely a better option for an elopement than a full-on destination extravaganza — guests are capped at four. But if you want an unforgettable wedding getaway for just the two of you, this underwater wedding couldn’t be more perfect. If you want to make it a full-day affair, following a Champagne toast (back above sea level, of course), you can be taken to a private islet. They can’t promise a singing crab a lá Sebastian, but everything else you could want is taken care of. For more info, check out boraboraunderwaterwedding.com.
