Destination weddings, on average, cost more than hometown weddings, but if you have your heart set on jet-setting for your big day, it can help to know where you can spend the least on those nuptials.
According to a new report from MoneyGeek, some of the most popular destination wedding options are also some of the least expensive: Niagara Falls, New York, and Gatlinburg, Tennessee. These destinations sat at the third- and fourth-least expensive spots, respectively, in MoneyGeek’s study. You can expect to plan a destination wedding for less than $15,000 in both.
The true least-expensive destinations, though, might not be exactly where you want to spend your big day. Laughlin, Nevada, sits at the budget-friendliest top, with destination weddings there coming in at less than $9,000. While you might not be familiar with Laughlin, it sits about an hour and a half south of Las Vegas. The second-most budget-friendly destination is De Queen, Arkansas, another little-known destination near the Arkansas-Oklahoma border.
If you’re not keen on planning a destination wedding in a small locale like this, though, MoneyGeek did also sort its findings to exclude small destinations, looking only at mid-size and large cities with populations of more than 100,000. Within these parameters, your most affordable destination wedding options will include Mobile, Alabama; Fayetteville, North Carolina; Salt Lake City, Utah; Port St. Lucie, Florida; Las Vegas, Nevada; and St. Petersburg, Florida.
