SCUBA diving is a truly magical, and addicting, hobby. There’s something so serene and ethereal about exploring the waters of the world, where relatively fewpeople ever venture. Once you’ve caught the SCUBA bug it’s time to start planning some dive trips. There are countless amazing dive spots around the globe, but here are a few time-tested favorites.

Australia’s Great Barrier Reef

A SCUBA list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral barrier reef in the entire world. Cairns will be your departure point for this adventure, and it’s worth looking into live-aboard trip options, where you’ll live on the dive boat for several days and nights.

Belize’s Great Blue Hole

Belize is also a jumping-off point for some amazing diving, and divers flock to the Great Blue Hole in particular. The hole was formed during the last ice age and it’s more than 120 meters deep. You can explore different cave formations, which only lend to the stark contrast of the deep, dark blue waters.

Malaysia’s Barracuda Point

Malaysia is full of phenomenal dive sites, and it can be hard to choose a single site. One favorite place is called Barracuda Point. The fish are teeming here, and you’ll be surrounded on all sides by fascinating marine life.

Egypt’s Red Sea

Egypt might not be the first place that comes to mind for SCUBA, but don’t let that stop you from diving here. The aquatic life is unreal, but the area is also home to the world’s most famous wreck dive, the SS Thistlegorm (a British transport vessel that was attacked by a German bomb.)

Silfra, Iceland

Last, but certainly not least, is Silfra, located in Iceland. Don’t dismiss it based on its location just yet, though! Here you can swim through impeccably clear waters, and you’ll be smack dab in the middle of two continents — North America and Europe. You’ll see where the two tectonic plates meet, an undeniably cool experience.
