Tips / Travel

When you find yourself in a new place, it is always nice to sit back and enjoy a drink, whether traveling with friends or alone; finding that pitch-perfect spot makes all the difference when welcoming yourself to a new port. Everyone has their preferences when it comes to environment, but if you find yourself wanting to deviate from the standard offerings, you might consider looking into something nautically themed. There is never a shortage of conversation starters in a bar with puffer fish hanging from the ceiling or a room exclusively dedicated to Gilligan’s Island memorabilia. Depending on the port of call in which you find yourself, you will have to do your own sleuthing, but below are a few options.

If you find yourself in Los Angeles, it is worth it to wander Santa Monica and stop in at the Galley; this unsuspecting and small restaurant bar is welcoming and friendly. You may even find you accidentally stay all night.

On the opposite end of the West Coast, try out the Octopus Bar in Seattle. They have some creative cocktails and with the motto “Always at Home, Forever at Sea” you know you are in the right place.

In Baltimore, go to Fell’s Point and plop yourself down at Bertha’s for a bowl of mussels. This place is on the water and of the sea. The point is these gems exist in almost every city and, as long as you are looking, the right one will find you.
