The Yucatan peninsula is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Mexico. Cancun draws in the majority of visitors, but there are lots of other cool places to stay.
Head down the coast from Cancun to Playa del Carmen and stay at the Paamul mini-resort. You can get a room in the small hotel or rent a cabin with a palm roof.
Further down the coast lies the small village of Mahuhual, famous for its beaches where turtles come to lay their eggs. Book one of the two rooms at Travel In, a small guesthouse with an amazing restaurant and bar.
Take a break from the seaside and head to the lakeside town of Bacalar. Check in at Toto Blue for a refined but relaxed stay.
Up in the city of Merida there are lots of amazing places to stay. Check out Villa Merida, set in a restored colonial mansion, or try Casa Azul Monumento Historico. Both provide a taste of Merida’s wealthy colonial past.
For a few more days by the beach, go to the picturesque island of Holbox. A stay at Tribu hostel provides the perfect base from which to explore the island.
