If you’re seeking a stay in New York City’s Financial District, there’s no better spot than Andaz Wall Street. This fashionable and affordable accommodation option is out of the way of New York City’s major crowds, but still gives guests easy access to many top attractions in the area.
When I arrived at the Andaz Wall Street to check in, the lobby was more or less empty and the friendly staff was able to check me in quite quickly. As they did, they gave me a rundown of all the amenities the hotel offers. In exchange for the hotel’s resort fee (which you’ll find at many Manhattan properties now), guests enjoy a long list of discounts and specials at surrounding businesses, but also access to a free river cruise. While I didn’t take advantage of this amenity during my stay, I did make note of it and, had I more time, would’ve likely taken the hotel up on its offer.
I had one of the hotel’s smaller rooms, a king bed guestroom, but I hardly felt the room was cramped. There was ample storage space as soon as you walked through the door, topped with a wet bar; a huge bathroom to the right, with a spacious, walk-in rain shower and large vanity; and work space and a seating area further into the room. A window seat at the large window gave views of the street below. The overall feel of the room was cozy and home-y. The understated decor reflects New York’s past without being over the top. Dark hardwood floors draw the eye upward to delicate murals on the wall and the 12-foot ceilings.
Andaz Wall Street does have its own on-site dining options. I walked through the restaurant, simply named Andaz Kitchen & Bar, and found it stylish. However, I didn’t get a chance to dine there during my stay, as the hotel is wonderfully located near many great dining options in the Financial District. The hotel also has its own beer garden, open April through October, but it seems to be more or less a place where random visitors and locals wind up just to sit and chat, versus guests enjoying a brew. The hotel also offers a complimentary happy hour in the evening, with wine and canapés, and coffee and pastries each morning.
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Andaz Wall Street and would gladly stay again. The location, combined with the large guestroom sizes and friendly staff, made the hotel one of the better I’ve experienced in this neighborhood.
