Unique Itineraries & Tours

Arigato Travel, a culinary and cultural experience company in Japan, recently joined forces with Biwako Visitors Bureau and Shiga Prefecture to unveil a brand-new, immersive, two-day itinerary for Samurai enthusiasts and history lovers. Curious travelers can explore the region’s deep-rooted Samurai heritage, landscapes and cultural traditions.

A short trip from Kyoto, Shiga, known as the “Sacred Land of the Samurai,” is home to key Sengoku-era sites, Oda Nobunaga’s (a Japanese warrior who overthrew the Ashikaga shogunate) former residence, temples and scenic routes once walked by legendary warriors. Despite the rich history, the area is one of Japan’s most underrated hidden gems.

The two-day experience includes:

  • Visits to historic temples and museums tied to samurai life
  • Exploration of locations connected to Oda Nobunaga
  • Regional dishes inspired by warrior traditions
  • Hands-on ninja- and samurai-themed workshops

This trip is perfect for history lovers, those wanting to learn more about Samurai, and travelers looking for a regional and cultural experience. Leaving the hustle and bustle of Kyoto allows for a deeper connection in Shiga Prefecture, an undiscovered prefecture.
