Autumn Beers Now That Oktoberfest Is Over

Just because everything seems to need an orange theme at this time of year — and I am looking at you, Mr. Pumpkin Spice Salesman, you don’t have to go full Blue Moon — there are plenty of alternative beers on the market today well suited to this time of year.

I may be a little biased (coming from the Emerald Isle) in this regard, but when it starts to get a little chilly and you want a warming hearty meal, there are few beers better than Guinness to go along with a stew or a chili con carne.

Rogue is a favorite all year long as well and if you like your beer extra malty you could certainly do worse than the deliciously rich Jolly Pumpkin Bam Noire Dark Farmhouse Ale.

For something a little lighter but still packing a flavorful punch, El Segundo Steve Austin’s Broken Skull IPA is a great beer, perfect for a cookout, hanging out around the fire or even just the TV.

Founders Wet Hopped Harvest Ale is the type of beer you know what to expect from and it doesn’t disappoint; smooth and full-bodied, you can be sure any guest will enjoy it as much as you do.

Anchor Steam Porter and Ballast company’s Dead Ringer are also worthy of a shout out so you can reluctantly pack away the lederhosen, put away the cooler and enjoy some good old-fashioned ale.

Autumn beers remain a number of my favorite offerings before the same breweries often get confused and start brewing Christmas offerings more reminiscent of mulled wine than a proper beer for October and November prior to the snow’s arrival.

After the inaugural event’s success, this year’s festival is bigger than ever, with the one-day main event once again held at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts (historic site of the 1969 Woodstock Festival). The Argosaronic Islands Are Calling

The Saronic or Argo Saronic Islands of Greece call travelers to explore its seven small islands and islets brimming with history, natural sites and more. With most easily accessible by boat, the islands’ proximity to ports of Athens make the Saronic Islands an ideal destination for those preferring shorter boat rides. In fact, trips from Athens ports to the islands take only between 10 minutes and two hours, depending on the island you choose, making them perfect for day or weekend trips.
