Bars in Oaxaca

Oaxaca is a hot destination for travelers in Mexico, and there are plenty of reasons why. Here are some of the best bars in town for you to check out.

Get acquainted with the local spirit, mezcal, at Mezcaleria Los Amantes. It’s a weird little place but the selection of mezcal is second to none, and the regulars tend to be friendly.

Another good spot for mezcal is La Mezcaloteca, where bartenders will talk you through the main varieties and what makes them different. You can also taste a good selection at In Situ, which has more than 180 bottles in its cellar.

Other good mezcal spots include La Porfiria and CUISH, both in the middle of town. Do as the locals do and get a beer to wash down your mezcal. Remember to sip it rather than downing it in one shot.

If you don’t fancy mezcal, head to La Tentacion. Of course you can still get the local spirit here, but there are plenty of other drinks too. It’s known for its live music and late opening hours.

For something a little different, go to Piedra Lumbre. It’s an art gallery as well as a bar, so you can have a few cocktails while you check out the work.
