Enjoy the best of both worlds when you fly with TAP Air Portugal thanks to the Portugal Stopover program. With the program, TAP passengers, whether traveling for business, leisure or both, can stop in Portugal for up to 10 days at no additional airfare on the way to their final destination. What does this mean for travelers wishing to explore by both land and sea? It means after flying to Portugal with TAP and experiencing the country in an entirely new way, travelers can then embark on scenic river and ocean cruises from Portugal’s port cities, or fly with TAP to another European destination.
Whether flying into Lisbon or Porto, TAP’s Portugal Stopover program is the perfect stepping stone to taking on Portugal’s waterways and coastlines. Portugal is rich in cruising experiences for both ocean and river cruises. While cruising offers an incredible way to experience the country’s natural beauty and charm, it’s well worth setting aside extra time to fully enjoy Lisbon or Porto beyond the cruise itinerary. These historic cities brim with culture, cuisine and character — and spending a day or two (or more) exploring them on land can truly elevate your journey. And TAP’s Portugal Stopover means adding more time to soak in the best of Portugal has never been easier.

One of Portugal’s most popular cruise ports lies in Lisbon, a vibrant capital blending old-world charm with modern energy, and a gateway to both Portugal’s rich heritage andTAP’s global connections. A key destination for many of today’s leading cruise lines, Lisbon welcomes travelers with state-of-the-art Lisbon Cruise Port and its award-winning terminal, conveniently located near city center. From historic neighborhoods and iconic trams to world-class cuisine and culture, Lisbon offers endless discoveries — just minutes from the dock.
Porto is a standout cruise destination, often featured on the itineraries of many major cruise lines. Renowned for its historic charm, vibrant culture and scenic riverside views, it offers visitors a memorable taste of Portugal. The modern Porto Leixões Cruise Terminal, just a short drive from city center, offers convenient access to all Porto has to offer. Meanwhile, river cruises along the Douro River make Porto the starting and/or stopping point of each journey. The UNESCO World Heritage site is known for its terraced vineyards, historic towns and rich wine culture.
The airline’s recent network expansion means more travelers can take advantage of the Portugal Stopover program and explore Portugal’s history and natural beauty.
Athens, Greece, will see TAP flights beginning this summer. Starting July 1, travelers can fly directly from one of TAP’s 10 gateways in North America to Lisbon (LIS), Portugal, and connect to Athens (ATH), Greece, with five weekly flights operating via an Airbus 320neo throughout summer and Embraer E190 in the winter.
Beginning March 29, TAP resumes its direct connection between Lisbon and Tel Aviv (TLV). The five-times weekly service will operate via Airbus A320neo. Looking ahead, the airline will also launch a new route from Porto to Tel Aviv in October.

Travelers seeking a blend of business and leisure strike the perfect balance in the air with TAP’s elevated business-class cabin. Business class features chairs with full-flat recline that transform into real beds, complete with cushions and soft-touch upholstery. Business-class passengers are also treated with soft duvets and comfortable head rests. Travelers in business class get a taste of Portugal even before landing with the warmth of Portuguese hospitality. A curated list of Portuguese wines complements meals and the airline’s Local Stars program is a special experience in itself, honoring Portuguese cuisine through the craft of selected chefs whose dishes are presented in business class.
Upon landing, whether travelers wish to spend time in Portugal as part of the Portugal Stopover program before venturing off to their next destination or enjoy a whole trip entirely within Portugal, TAP Air Portugal has the tools to not only make it possible but also a pleasure.
Voted Best Stopover Program in the world by Global Traveler readers for seven consecutive years, the Portugal Stopover program not only allows travelers to spend up to 10 days in Lisbon or Porto at no extra airfare but also gives travelers access to more than 500 discounts and special offers from more than 150 partners across the country, including restaurants, tours, museums, shops and more. There’s even a Portugal Stopover discount for hotels. For instance, some partner hotels offer customers up to 20 percent off best available rates. This means you have more ways to explore Portugal before or after your cruise.
Europe’s cities and rivers beckon, and TAP Air Portugal’s extensive global network allows for seamless travel. Today, the airline offers flights from 10 gateways in North America connecting to more than 60 destinations in Europe and Africa. In 2024 TAP flew 16.1 million passengers worldwide and 1.6 million passengers on North American routes. In 2025, the airline celebrated 80 years in service and looks forward to embracing many more milestones in the future, where each destination is a new discovery or a return home.
