Kosovo is one of the youngest nations in Europe and, as such, has seen its fair share of growing pains over the years. However, those who’ve stepped foot into the country know it’s full of charm and friendly people waiting for their chance to shine. Here are a few must-see places.
Pristina
The capital city of Kosovo is vibrant and full of young locals looking to make it in the world. As such, you’ll find plenty of hipster joints around town to explore along with some great coffee and wonderful urban restaurants and clubs.
Prizren
Prizren is easily the most stunning place in Kosovo, with cobblestone streets and cozy cafes around every corner. The Bistrica River flows right through the center of the city and the fortress is one of the country’s top attractions.
Rugova Canyon and the Accursed Mountains
If you’re looking for something outdoorsy to explore, get back in touch with nature by hiking the Rugoya Canyon and Accursed Mountains. These striking formations are some of Europe’s most beautiful regions and nearby locals are actually Albanian, rather than Serbian, making for a unique experience within the country.
Gjakova
Gjakova is the de facto artistic capital of Kosovo, so you’re bound to have a good time walking the streets and viewing the uniquely structured alleyways and architecture. It’s the best place in the country to explore local artwork and crafts and find some gifts to take home to family and friends.
