As the cherry blossoms bloom and the Washington Nationals throw the first pitch of the season, it can only mean one thing: Spring has arrived in the nation´s capital, and summer is not far behind. Along with longer and warmer days comes a smorgasbord of some of the country´s best festivals, all within a short drive from D.C.

 

Sweetlife Festival (May)

Brought to you by the brains behind the local healthy food chain, Sweetgreen, this annual music and food festival takes place at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md., and features musical acts ranging from rock to electronic and everything in between.

 

DelFest (Memorial Day, May)

Cruise out to Cumberland, Va., during Memorial Day weekend for a three-day festival of music, mountains and memories. The festival features national acts like the Yonder Mountain String Band and Bruce Hornsby, as well as activities for all ages, like water balloon fights!

 

Roots Picnic (June)

The pier at Penn´s Landing in Philadelphia welcomes The Roots for the ninth year as they celebrate their hometown as only The Roots can. Accompanying acts include Usher, Leon Bridges and Swizz Beatz, among others.

 

Firefly (June)

For the past five years in Dover, Del., this music fest has slowly grown into a legendary must for festival fans. Major acts like Florence and the Machine, Mumford and Sons and Ellie Goulding will be gracing the stage this year.

Les Roches and Silversea signed an agreement to launch a groundbreaking field of study. The first-of-its-kind, innovative program, at the Les Roches campus in Marbella, Spain, will offer the knowledge and skills to manage and oversee various onboard areas of cruise vessels, as well as marketing, revenue management and other commercial functions. Students benefit from a scholarship agreement between both entities and the opportunity for employment with Silversea.

United Continues Its Global Expansion

United Airlines keeps soaring to new heights, recently announcing another expansion of its leading global route network. The airline added new non-stop flights between Newark (EWR) and Marrakesh (RAK), Morocco; Tokyo (NRT) and Cebu (CEB), Philippines; and Houston (IAH) and Medellin (MDE), Colombia. That’s not all: United also plans to increase flights to popular worldwide destinations including Hong Kong (HKG); Seoul (INC), South Korea; and Porto (OPO), Portugal. Following the recent agreement to increase flights between the U.S. and Chinese governments, the airline now adds four weekly flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Shanghai (PVG).
