Kicking off electronic music in 2017 is BPM Festival, a 10-day event in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, now celebrating its 10th anniversary. The festival originally started as a tradeshow for the nightlife industry, until dance music aficionados found out about all the great artists there.
Today, it draws more than 70,000 people, and has become a favorite event to play for DJs around the world. For jaded ravers tired of the summer festival menu, this is the perfect event for a mid-winter escape. The sound is overwhelmingly house and techno, bringing in a slew of legends and upcoming stars across a number of clubs and stages in Playa del Carmen.
More than 100 artists will be arriving in Mexico for the festival; the lineup reads like a who’s who of dance music. The usual suspects are there: Carl Cox, John Digweed, Dubfire and Pete Tong, in addition to newer talent like Hot Since 82, The Martinez Brothers, Wolf + Lamb and more.
Many of the performances are organized as showcase by record labels, artists and music publications, giving you an idea of what each event will sound like. This year’s highly anticipated showcases are presented by Dusky, Mixmag’s Ya’ah Muul, Solomun + 1 and more to be announced.
The festival always packs some surprises, so be sure to check their website for new artists.
