New Orleans is a culinary hot spot, featuring cuisine from fine-dining establishments to dives and everything in between. If you want to sample the city’s best dishes and you’re on a budget, follow our list of suggestions for the best cheap eats.
Verti Marte
A visit to New Orleans isn’t complete without eating a po’boy. Located in the French Quarter, Verti Marte serves up some of the best in the city. You’ll spend $5–10. The portions are large enough to split or enjoy yourself if you’re really hungry.
Even though the café has the word donut in its name, we recommend stopping in for the tasty sliders. The flavorful cheeseburger or chicken sliders cost $3.25 each and are filling, despite being a smaller size. If you have a sweet tooth, the donuts and cinnamon rolls are also a steal at $2–4.
Samuel’s Blind Pelican
A favorite among locals, the bar and restaurant offers a stellar daily oyster happy hour. From 4–7 p.m., order any alcoholic drink and get a dozen raw oysters for $3 — that’s 25 cents per oyster. The same option is available for chargrilled oysters, but that will cost you $10 for a dozen.
Located next door to its more upscale counterpart, Cochon, Cochon Butcher offers pork-focused sandwiches. Sandwiches are in the $10–14 range and sides and small plates cost less than $10.
