Tips / Budget

Backpacking through Thailand has become a right of passage for many travelers. The low cost of food and accommodation combined with some of the world’s most beautiful scenery make it one of the best options for travelers on a budget. Here’s a simple breakdown of how much you’ll spend exploring the country.

Food

Food in Thailand is incredibly cheap with meals costing as little as $2 and rarely costing more than $6. If you eat out three times a day this averages to roughly $360 to cover backpacking for an entire month.

Accommodation

Most backpackers spend their nights in hostels when visiting Thailand, but the occasional hotel room might be necessary for some alone time. You can easily find a place to sleep for less than $15 a night. Round up your budget to $500 to leave room for a few splurges on nicer beds every so often.

Transportation

Getting around Thailand generally involves sleeper busses, tuk tuks and rentals. Set aside $200 to make sure you’re not constantly on your feet.

Activities

Between the temple visits, nightlife, elephant sanctuaries and offshore diving opportunities you’ll spend a lot of time having fun. Your entertainment budget will probably be your largest at around $600. That’s, of course, if you drink to excess and jump at every tour you’re offered.

Total Thailand Budget: $1,660.

Interior Upgrades Begin Rolling Out Across United Fleet

United Airlines is in the midst of a major initiative to modernize its fleet over the next several years. After first announcing the plan in 2021, planes fitted with United’s signature interior are finally beginning to appear across the airline’s narrowbody fleet of Boeing and Airbus planes. United flyers are sure to notice these enhancements from the moment they step on board: Each new or updated plane sports remodeled seats, seatback entertainment screens for everyone, Bluetooth connectivity and more, all adding up to a better experience on every journey.
