Tips / Travel

Traveling can wreak havoc on a bank account and avid explorers are always looking for new ways to save. One option many don’t consider is eschewing the typical hotel room and choosing to rough it instead. That’s right, camping can help save you tons when it comes to travel.

Cheaper Lodging

Obviously, it costs less to rent a campsite for a night than it does to rent a hotel room. In fact, the difference is usually at least $100. Most campgrounds charge $10–20 per car, which can go a long way in saving your budget.

Cheaper Food

Staying at a hotel usually means having to eat out since only the most expensive accommodations include kitchens. Nearly every campsite includes a place to grill or at least start a fire. Hotdogs and s’mores only cost a few bucks to make.

Use Your Phone Less

Using a phone overseas can get pricey. You probably won’t have a signal while camping in the woods so you won’t have to worry about paying ridiculous fees for all those text messages you won’t be sending.

No Shopping

If you’re camping out in the woods, you’re pretty far away from any stores and places to waste your money. In fact, once you pitch your tent you shouldn’t be spending any money at all. Camping is a great way to explore a country’s natural setting as opposed to its commercial one.
